Every year we are proud to nominate a small number of the best projects and people we have worked with to the LABC SE Awards. The Awards celebrate not only great design and build standards but teamwork, compliance with building regulations and several other aspects of the project and the project team.
This year due to the pandemic the Awards took on a slightly different format. Instead of hosting the LABC SE Awards presentation at the Grand Hotel in Brighton, the judging took place virtually. LABC has now organised a grand final in London in January 2022, when all regional winners will be invited to attend to hear the national winners announced.
The results are in!
We are delighted that five of our nominees won their Award categories at the LABC SE Awards. All our winners deserved their place, which is testament to the quality and standards achieved by those involved. As a building control Partnership, we are proud to work with construction professionals who have a real passion for what they do and consistently achieve the highest standards. We will be crossing our fingers for everyone at the Grand Finals in January.
Best residential extension
This project was a stunning transformation of a standard detached house into a completely redesigned home, fit for 21st century living. (See main article image.) Architect Mark Fox listened to his clients and helped them translate their vision into reality. Builders CKH Build produced the highest standards of work and the house is now light-filled, spacious and visually impactful.
Best individual new dwelling
This U-shaped Scandia-Hus timber framed home uses renewable energies and is an excellent example of a highly insulated self-build project. The owners researched, resourced and project managed the build themselves and the result is a home showcasing their ideas and attention to detail. The large expanses of glazing provide panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Best residential and small commercial builder
Having worked with Tony Howe of Just Extensions for many years we were delighted to see him and his team rewarded for their hard work, high standards and craftmanship, when they were crowned Best residential and small commercial builder for 2021.
Best Partnership with a local authority building control team
The LABC Partner Authority Scheme is designed to help streamline the building regulations submission process for designers and builders. Having built a successful working relationship with Robert and Simon from The Harvest Partnership over the last 20 years, and in more recent years, carried out their Partner plan checking work for them, we are delighted to hear of their well-deserved success.
LABC newcomer of the year
Katy joined us in the middle of the pandemic as a trainee building control surveyor and has shown herself to be highly motivated and a self-starter. As well as learning on the job, Katy has also completed the first year of her Degree course in Building Control Surveying with flying colours. We are thrilled that Katy's hard work has been recognised by the Awards judges and know how lucky we are to have her on the team.
