Awards Haul for our LABC SE Nominees
The prestigious LABC SE Awards which commend the best in construction in the South East took place on Friday 22 June at the Grand Hotel in Brighton and Southern Building Control's customers swept the board with Awards.
Members of our team together with several of our customers whose projects had been shortlisted gathered with some 400 other professionals to eagerly await the outcome. All our nominees deserved their place at the Awards, which is testament to the quality and standards achieved by the people involved in these projects. As a building control partnership it is a pleasure to work with customers who have a real passion for what they do and stand out from the crowd.
Best Extension or Alteration
We were fortunate to have three projects shortlisted:
Project Rice, Dorking - Compass Construction Richard Taylor is highly regarded by our team for his standards and hands-on professionalism and this large extension showcases the skills of his team. A regular at our CPD events, Richard is always keen to keep up with the latest developments and innovations too.
Stockmans, Dorking - The Buildwise Construction Group This large extension project demonstrates the standards and workmanship that customers can expect of this forward-thinking team.
Deep Well, Oxted - Kavbro Build Ltd. Deep Well was awarded the Highly Commended certificate for the project which converted a standard 1960s dwelling into a stunning home with a large Spanish style garden which illustrates Kavbro's skills as craftsmen and their attention to detail. This is Kavbro's third Highly Commended award since the Awards began in 2009 which highlights the consistency of their work.
Best Individual New Dwelling
The Moorings, a fantasic self-build project was our nomination to this category. The owners researched, resourced and project managed everything themselves and the result is a home showcasing their ideas and attention to detail and a unique design enabling wonderful 360 degree views of the countryside.
Best Social or Affordable Housing Development
The Highly Commended award in this very popular category went to Cleves Way, Bletchingley, a new housing scheme for local people with a connection to Bletchingley developed by Tandridge District Council. The project was sympathetically designed by MH Architects Ltd to maximise the plot's potential and expertly executed by Selsdon Building Contractors. Special appreciation goes to Brian, Selsdon's site manager who was professional and proactive throughout.
Best Change of Use or Conversion
Our two nominees to this category were Shaw Design Services Ltd for The Kings Arms, Ockley. Darren Shaw saw this project through from planning stage to completion and the resulting conversion into two homes is testament to his eye for detail and unwilligness to compromise on quality. Local residents have been highly complementary about the conversion which speaks for itself.
Parkland Barns won the Highly Commended certificate in this category. This beautiful conversion of two derelict barns, which wasn't without its complications was another project perfectly executed by the The Buildwise Construction Group.
Best Small Housing Development
Croudace Portland Ltd were shortlisted for a stunning development of five executive homes at the Knoll, Chipstead. Renowed for their standards of design and consistency of quality and standards Croudace are always a pleasure to work with.
We are proud to be associated with Chartwell Land & New Homes Ltd who were awarded the Highly Commended Certificate for their six home development in Hookwood. A tricky site which used innovative design solutions, showed attention to detail and real consideration for existing neighbours were just some of the reasons for the win. Andrew Fenning, Design & Construction Manager was also instrumental to the success of the project, with his 'can do' attitude and always going the extra mile for his clients.
Best Educational Building
An outstanding win for Nower Wood Educational Nature Reserve, a centre for child and adult education nestled in ancient Surrey woodland. A real team effort on the part of Surrey Wildlife Trust, GWP Architects and Sandy Lane Projects of Sutton. This project overcame site difficulties from the start, used innovative accessibility solutions and demonstrated craftmanship throughout.
