We are now making a phased return to onsite visits where it is safe and practical to do so. Where this is not possible, we will continue to carry out virtual inspections using mobile technology. In view of the current situation please only book an inspection via our business support team on 0330 0249355 or your surveyor here.
When you are ready to start work, if you have used an agent to make your Building Regulations application, they should have provided you with a copy of our approval/acknowledgement notice and any drawings associated with your application.
You or your builder will then need to let us know as soon as work starts and you are ready for a first inspection. This can be done either by texting or calling us. To text us is quick and easy using the free LABC site inspection App available for Apple or Andriod. (Once you have downloaded the App, choose Southern Building Control Partnership from the dropdown list of Local Authorities and book your visit.)
Alternatively, you can call to book an inspection directly with your surveyor or via our business support team on 0330 024 9355. (Lines open at 8.30am.) Calls received before 9.30am can usually be booked in for a same day inspection. If you need a morning/afternoon visit please contact us as early as possible or the day before. You or your builder should then ensure you contact us to arrange further inspections at key stages of the work so that we can offer advice and check that the work is being carried out safely and in accordance with the Building Regulations.
Following a satisfactory final inspection, full payment of your Building Control fees and receipt of any relevant documentation, we will issue your completion certificate free of charge. This provides proof to building societies, banks and solicitors that, as far as can be ascertained, the work complied with the Building Regulations and had been completed to the Local Authority’s satisfaction. You should keep this document in a safe place for future reference as you may need it if you sell your house or remortgage in the future.
