When you are ready to start work, if you have used an agent to apply for your building regulations, they should have ensured that you have a copy of our approval/acknowledgement and the drawings associated with the application.
You will need to let us know as soon as your builder plans to start work and this can be done either by texting us using the LABC inspection request app or calling us on 0330 024 9355. Your builder should then call us out at key stages of the work so that we can offer advice and check that the work is being carried out in accordance with the building regulations. We normally offer same day site inspections (Monday to Friday) provided we have received the request before 9.30am.

Following a satisfactory final inspection, full payment of your building control fees and receipt of any relevant documentation, a completion certificate will be issued free of charge. This provides proof to building societies, banks and solicitors that, as far as can be ascertained, the work complied with the building regulations and had been completed to the council’s satisfaction. You should keep this document in a safe place for future reference as you may need it if you sell your house or remortgage in the future.
